Creating alternative social events that offer students something new and fun to do, while setting the expectation that participants be sober.
Examples from NSE's first year on three pilot campuses:
- A Night At Funplex – NSE rented out a local arcade on a Thursday night from 9:30pm –Midnight. Food, tokens, and rides were free. Over 600 college students attended.
Harry Potter Premiere—NSE rented out a 350 person movie theater for the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and worked with the theater management to show the film at 9:30pm, prior to its midnight release.
Rock ‘N’ Bowl – NSE rented out a local bowling alley during ‘laser bowl’ nights 9:30pm- Midnight —once in the Fall and once in the Spring. Average attendance per event was 150 students.
Movie Nights – NSE rented out a small local movie theater and showed first run films for free. Average attendance was approximately 200 students.
- Humans Vs. Zombies – NSE sponsored this nationally known game of Nerf Tag on campus. Average participation was approximately 200 students.
Creativity Is Everything
Whether you're putting an event together or getting the word out, definitely be creative in your efforts. People respond to what they perceive as cool, fun, or interesting.
